Why is On Demand so quiet?

So, I’ve been catching up on Twin Peaks: TOS, while also watching The Return. I’ve been watching a combination of Showtime directly, DVR, Netflix, and On Demand.

Mostly, when I watch my TV, I have it set on 28 as the volume level. There are a few channels that require adjustment. For some reason most PBS shows need to be louder, and TCM movies usually need to be louder. If I DVR them, they need to be even louder, although in general, the DVR doesn’t need the volume turned up.

TNT is another channel that needs to be turned up, although it only needs to be up 32, while PBS needs to be around 40.

On Demand needs to be way up, though, and I don’t know why. I have to turn the TV up to like, 52 to hear On Demand clearly. Showtime On Demand needs to be even higher-- 56 or so.

What’s up with this? Showtime is the only premium channel I get-- are they all like that, HBO and all. Does it have something to do with their not having commercials? But Showtime itself doesn’t need to be much louder; maybe 32. It’s really the On Demand that needs to be loud. Does it have something to do with the tuner? Is the signal not as strong, and because I don’t wear my glasses a lot around the house, I don’t notice that On Demand picture is worse?

Or am I nuts?
