Why is Rhodesia called Rhodesia

In one of his travel series for the BBC (probably Pole to Pole), Michael Palin, in the former Rhodesia, explains a little bit about Cecil Rhodes. I’ve always wondered if this was a deliberate reference back to the question he’d asked over 20 years earlier.

And in Great Circle he went to a lumberjack competition in British Columbia.

I’m distantly related to the other Cecil. One of my great-great-grandmothers was a Rhodes – yes, one of those Rhodes…

Bouncy-bouncy?

(Shakes hands) Thanks.

It was a good thread…

This thread is no more! It has ceased to be! It’s expired and gone to meet its maker! It’s a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! If you hadn’t stickied it to the first page it’d be fading into obscurity! Its metabolic processes are now ‘istory! It’s off the twig! It’s kicked the bucket, it’s shuffled off this mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin’ choir invisibule!! THIS IS AN EX-THREAD!!

I know a dead thread when I see one, and I’m looking at one right now.
