Are you asking about prostitution specifically or adult entertainment in general? As for prostitution and strip clubs - there are many, many very low end strip clubs and brothels where you’ll try not to think about what might be on the floor and what STDs the girls are carrying; however, there are also a lot of higher-end strip clubs and escort services, particularly where people have money (such as Vegas, or you can find them online) that offer more quality control. I think people like to think the worst things possible about people in the adult entertainment industry, like that all the women must be dirt-poor whores who’d fuck anything to make a buck. I’d never argue that there aren’t a lot of seedy strippers, strip clubs and prostitutes, but I imagine that there are almost as many higher-end places you can go if you have the cash to do so. And most of the strippers and other “smut peddlers” I’ve known (not very many, so my sample may be skewed) have been clean because, where they work, it’s part of the job.
As for other stuff like porn, I’m not quite sure why they include some of the scenes they do. Then again, as a female, I’d think of it from a woman’s point of view and what would be arousing to me. Still, a lot of porn made by women fails to arouse because it’s either lesbian porn or over-acted. I also fail to understand why watching a woman or man hock a loogie onto another’s genetalia like they’re hocking a fat one on the sidewalk is arousing. As for other things I don’t find arousing (girls’ pubic area shaved bald as a baby, all the fake groaning and screaming), I’m assuming that a lot of it is done for the benefit of the camera.
