I got a new personal laptop today, a Dell Latitude E6500. This is also my first real exposure to Vista, so I have been spending the morning going through some diagnostics, tweaking some appearance settings, and looking through all the system information. In the course of doing this, I discovered that my CPU is at a minimum of 50% usage, even during idling. I went to the new Resource Monitor that comes with Vista to see a breakdown of CPU usage. This is where I discovered that stacsv.exe is the culprit. Its description (according to the Resource Monitor) is “IDT PC Audio.” Googling “high CPU usage + stacsv.exe” has so far proven fruitless. All I’ve found is numerous tech support websites where people have posted their running system processes that incidentally happen to include stacsv.exe.
Since I literally just turned this on for the first time this morning, I can’t imagine that this would be malware related (also, I ran three separate spyware scanners). Can any Dopers help me here?
