Why is the Cross Worshipped?

Latro: Isn’t it amazing how so many Latin words are based on English rebuses and other English word games like that example of equinox you quoted. Wait, not amazing. What’s the word or phrase I’m looking for here? Oh, yes. I have it. It’s horse apples! But, wait again! If it’s the “marriage” involving “O-X” why aren’t all those Roman Catholic churches using a tic-tac-toe (naughts and crosses) board instead of a cross? Someone missed a great opportunity there.

No, no. As an actual philologist, I have to say that one does not have to love such an incredible display of ignorance of the subject (and just about every other subject mentioned in the thread, to boot).

So you have no knowledge of these things either? That’s what’s sad.

Just look at the different branches of Christianity and see the many divisions, They agree on some things and many they don’t. Some even don’t believe RCs are Christian. Any Phone book would be a big help.

Yes, yes I do, and what I don’t know or remember half, I look up and read up.
Usually, when I consult a source I learn something new or find out I had some detail wrong.

What I don’t do is;
Garble stuff I only half understand into a bundle of what ifs, then ask my spirit guide if what I dreamt up during this bong session is correct, then combine that with the latest LSD vision I had and finally present that pile of equine crap as fact on the internet and deride people that they had no ‘knowledge’ of this.

Norma:
I was about to apologize for my associates who do not accept “personal divine revelation” as being an acceptable source for historical analysis, but God told me not to bother, and to assure you that you are doing a fine job.

I am not certain, though, whether it was God or Satan who was speaking to me then. They have very similar accents. Since God doesn’t lie, but Satan does constantly, and neither seems impelled to answer a direct question, I must remain in doubt.

Yes, it is sad that you are the only one that seems to possess this “knowledge”.

That’s because I have done the research and put the big picture of how people are apparently so easily deceived together. My education is extensive in many areas and it is easier for me to see through the fog than those who have not had that advantage.

My medical education shows that you have to have living nerves to feel pain. That means there is no way that eternal punishment or pleasure is possible for the dead. It also rules out heaven and hell, which the OT also condemns. That means there is no Satan so people are fooled into thinking that evil comes from somewhere other than the real God.

My degrees in archaeology, anthropology, linguistics, etc. allowed me to piece the rituals of ancient societies together. There the origin of all contemporary religions are starkly apparent.

On top of that my own sense of spirituality is such that lies have no place in my mind. It hurts me to see how religions are destroying this world and people are destroying each other on the pretext that their god is better than that of the other when really they are the same.

Rarely do people do the amount of research that I have undertaken so why did I do it? It is something over which I had no choice. Once it started it led from one thing to the other until the whole picture was known. You can read it all in my sites if you are interested, and you can start with this one

Instead of firing barbs it would be worth your while to take a step back and ask yourself why is the world in so much trouble? Why are we heading towards devastation that will wipe out most of human life? Why are people killing each other over religion, fighting wars, engaging in the growth and distribution of drugs? Why is there an increase in poverty and starvation, overpopulation and dwindling resources. addiction to carbon producing energy sources, and so on ad infinitum?

There is a plan in place and that has also been revealed. There is also this site
http://www.squidoo.com/why-do-humans-suffer

Unless those who have had their barbs into me are prepared to do a bit of reading and to open their minds to the things I am talking about then there is nothing more that one can do for them. The choice is ignorance or enlightenment.
Maybe someone will gain something from these disclosures. That’s all that matters.

From what institutes of higher education did you receive your degrees?

There is no way you have a degree in archeology and not know simple historical stuff like that Constantines “sign” wasn’t the cross but the Chi-Rho.
There’s no way you have a degree in linguistics and not know the ethymology of Equinox.
There’s no way you have a degree in etc.

Personally, what I want to see more of are your hilarious folk etymologies. Your linked site mentions this one:

Can you please explain the details of this linguistic derivation and the particular language(s) it involves? Thanks!

In fact, if you are the same “Norma” that writes those articles for Squidoo, there’s a bit of a conflict between what you claim here and what you posted on your official website.

Again with the “i” = “eye” silliness.
Eve is simply a shortening of “evening” and “evening” comes from the Old English æfen with the same meaning.

Ye of little faith, Latro. Obviously, she’s a trained statistician!

I was wondering when I’d get a chance to run that old board meme again.

Linguistics, huh? From which university did you obtain that degree and what level is said degree? I happen to have an actual degree (A.B.) in Linguistics, obtained from the University of California at Davis. The funny thing is that one doesn’t even need such a degree to know how incredibly wrong you are when you trot your nonsense about linguistics matters here. But, seeing as I do have said degree, I can tell you that the tripe you’re spewing is noticed as such by those educated in the field you’re currently abusing.

Yeahbut, I think Norma is referring to the Biblical name “Eve”, usually derived from Hebrew hawah (het-yod-he). I still want to see how she gets “eye of life” out of that, though.

Assuming that Norma is Norma Holt, her LinkedIn page contains this gem.

So what ‘genetic markers’ might those be?

I thought Norma was a Squidoo writer named Norma Budden, but it turns out she is really skiesgreen?? The one who claims that “666” is a reference to Emperor Constantine?

I guess it doesn’t matter how many degrees she has or what she has them in, because according to her she got all this information from a vision.

Let’s not get into trying to chase down the real life identities of posters on this board. it is not necessary and no good ever comes of it.
