Why is the work week Monday through Friday?

When was it decided that the standard work week is Monday through Friday?

I’m sure it has to do with the sabbath (saturday) and going to church on sunday.

What countries do not follow the M-F work week structure?

I know that Israel works Sunday through Thursday (and half of Friday).

I’ve read about concepts that propose a new work/rest structure comprised of 4 days of work followed by 4 days of rest.

Cause who wants to work on the weekend???

I agree wholeheartedly…
So why can’t the work week be Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday?

 Good one, Max.

I’ve wondered this too. Why didn’t the Hebrew tradition of The Sabbath = Saturday carry over to Chistianity? Why does the calendar start with Sunday? Why doesn’t the “weekend” consist of Friday and Saturday?

You do know that the US doesn’t necessairly follow a Monday-Friday work week, right? All that’s requried for full-time employment is a 40 hour work week. Find yourself a job which has a compressed schedule and you can work 10 hour days, four days a week and have three-day weekends.

Since I already work min. 10 hour days (5 days/week), your idea would be ideal for me. If you know of any job opportunities like that, let me know.

Since Christ was resurrected on a Sunday, the early Christians started calling Sunday “The Lord’s Day” and eventually began worshipping on Sunday to avoid confusion with the Jewish Sabbath.

The agency I work for does that for some positions but somehow I don’t think you would like to be a patent examiner.

Why do most calenders have Saturday as the seventh day?

Work, work, work. Work, work work. I’m moving this to GQ since today’s a workday.

UB, when did you get elected governor?
