FTR, I’m only arguing against the posters who missed the point of the OP’s question and took him to task for apparently being too lazy to type another 5 keys. It was a reasonable question - even if if the answer is 'no, we don’t want to.
Please people, send a PM. Don’t clutter up a thread with thank yous.
Some thanks should have their own public post, not many, but a few. For some, a PM is worth the trouble. For most thanks, a button would be a nice option. A way to show appreciation without going overboard and littering a thread.
A ‘thanks’ or ‘like’ button would be as useful as it would be obtrusive.
Minor in both cases. There’s no great reason not to have one, except that this board culture is about as close to Luddism as one can get and still be on the internet.

There is one, right beside the post number.
That is a button to report a post, not a button to post “Reported” to the thread.
I’m ok with a “Thanks” button as long as the number of thanks isn’t displayed or even recorded anywhere. Kind of like the elevators with nonoperative door close buttons. They make you feel like you’re doing something without interfering with actual operations.
Believe me, running coach is quite familiar with that button, but that’s the “report” button, not a “reported” button. He wants a button that will post “reported” to the thread, for use after using the “report” button.
I know he was making a joke but in thinking on it’s not such a bad idea. It would let others know it’s been reported without bumping it.
No, you’d want to use the button to post “Reported” first. If you report a thread first, you have to wait 60 seconds before you can post that you reported it.
Sometimes you want to report… anonymously. Because narking out a raving spittle-frothing hate-poster and then taunting them with it is not always wise. Leaving aside basic non-confrontational cowardice, sometimes posting “Reported” is putting out fire with gasoline.
You shouldn’t be posting “reported” in a thread in that case anyway. “Reported” should be used only in the case of spam, and perhaps a thread move. Posting “reported” in the case of a rules violation could in some cases be interpreted as junior modding. So just report it without posting anything.
So, post “reported”, then report it. 
What about the opposite sentiment? Can we have a “Bite me, jerkwad” button?
