Why is this camera (Mamiya 7II) so expensive?

Look here at these eBay Auctions for Mamiya 7 II cameras. Some of them are priced at around $2000, which seems reasonable. But several of them are between $15,000 and $20,000. I don’t get it. What is so special about the Mamiya 7 IIs being auctioned by “dzone2” that make them worth such an inflated amount compared to the others?

I don’t know what’s going on, but if you click on the History link in the “Other item info” box, you’ll find that the actual sale prices are anywhere from $1200 to 1600 for the body only.

I wonder if it’s something about that brand. I don’t know anything about medium format cameras and wondering if they are just expensive in general I did a search for them. It appears that they aren’t all that pricey but I did find two from that brand, used, for $100,000.
Also, looking at the sellers history of both the $100,000 and the $20,000 cameras they both then to sell things in the $500 and less category with nothing else approaching $20,000 or $100,000. There is a very slight chance they’re laundering money with fake transactions.

ETA, taking a very quick look around online I’m seeing the $20K and $100K camera brand new retailing for $3-$4K.

Like all things on eBay, the asking prices mean little. Check the sale prices of finished auctions. Sellers can set any price they like and hope for bidders, or some prices may have been entered by mistake. It’d appear that the auctions in question may have a misplaced decimal place.

Just a WAG, but maybe a currency/exchange rate error in the listing?

(Hong Kong Dollar:US Dollar is roughly 8:1)

The lens prices from the same seller are not unreasonable, so I think they just screwed up when they made this batch of camera listings.
