Why is Trump popular with some Latinos?

A lot of Latinos are religious or favour family values. Is this article generally true? What should dem Dems do?

Ruben Navarrette is a Hispanic opinion columnist who has written about several columns about how the Democrats take Hispanics for granted. Here’s one of his recent columns.

As I’ve noted for many years, liberal Democrats in particular want Latinos to have every right — except the right to think for ourselves. When that happens, we might actually offer an opinion that disagrees with one of theirs. And they can’t have that. After all, to many of these people, we’re inferior. They’d be more comfortable with us serving up chips and salsa than policy proposals.

This the same, hollow, conclusory propaganda that Republicans always spout when trying to pry groups away from the Democrats. There is never any actual policy offered except “be more conservative,” which is completely self-serving.

Yea I would not take Navarrete as indicative of anything but a partisan viewpoint, including the usual pitch that buying what they are selling means you are “thinking for yourself” and not one of the sheeple.

That the Dem electoral establishment does at times tend to take the minorities for granted is a different issue, more for the threads about what the mainstream Dems are doing right or wrong.

When you run across a howler like this, the only correct response is to chuckle and close the browser.

It’s true that Democrats hope they can count on the support of Latinos in defeating the party that relentlessly attacks them as foreigners, immigrants, rapists, and subhumans in general. It’s exactly the same way that Republicans feel entitled to the votes of Christians, police, the military, and whites. But it’s just a dumb rhetorical flourish to state “they don’t want you to have the right to think.”

You could just as easily say the same thing if we’re talking about the way Republicans will savage a Never-Trumper for failing to toe the party line. It’s always projection with these people.

Is this really “a long time problem” just getting attention now?

This view has been questioned.
