On a syndicated show it may be done to allow the local station to insert traffic/weather reports and such without breaking up the “flow” of the banter. If the local station doesn’t do traffic reports, then they can just leave the satellite feed on and they get the music. The music also serves as a transition if the timing of the local content is off a bit from the feed.
