Humans can have natural blonde hair, yellow hair, white hair, grey hair, silver hair, brown hair, black hair, red hair, orange hair, and anything in between.
People also can have natural blue or even green eyes.
So why aren’t people born with blue or green hair? What’s preventing that? Couldn’t the same genes that cause blue & green eyes also cause blue or green hair?
Because blue and green are damn difficult to make from melanin. There aren’t very many other pigments in a mammal’s skin.
But what about Marge Simpson? Does she dye her beehive, or is she just a freak of mother nature?
Cecil pontifiates: Why aren’t green or blue naturally occurring human hair colors?
Thanks Whitetho.
I don’t think the Simpsons can be used as accurate examples of normal human coloration or finger quantity.
Marge does die her hair blue because according to Homer it is as gray as a mule since 17. In the episode where Homer teaches a marriage class he tells the class that Marge uses Blue Hair Dye No. 56.
