Between Bush and Gore?
This election turned out to be a real disaster. So why can’t we just have a runoff in a couple of weeks, and void the last one. Forget the EC. It’s time to do away with that old dinosaur anyway.

Here is a blatant plug for my thread, which coveres this issue and some others, and which nobody seems to deem worthy to respond to. 
The main reason is that our Constitution does not permit us to just decide to do things differently this year. What you propose would require a Constitutional Amendment. That is not likely to happen in the next few weeks. I am not convinced that it should happen at all, but that doesn’t change the fact that this election should be run by the laws in effect at this time.
Much as I would prefer to see my candidate win rather than another, that is only a small matter beside the consideration of maintaining a tradition of the rule of law. As inconvenient as the incompetence of the Florida election authorities has been, it is not proof that the system does not work, it is proof that we are not following the system. Changing systems won’t change that.
