Why in the world are we screwing around with Iraq? I mean, come on!!! We’re just looking for a reason to kick their ass! We’re like a bully at the playground pushing the smaller kids around.
Mustard gas??? Who gives a shit!!! Let it be, man!! If it really came down to it, we all know we would destroy the whole country in about 14 seconds.
I mean, look at N. Korea. They’re just taunting us, laughing at us, DARING US to mess with them. They’re picking a fight with us and we’re acting like a bunch of little girls!!! We’re offering this and that to end the nuke programs, BLA BLA BLA!!
Let’s think about this Iraq- they have an army that KNOWS it will get spanked by us if we go to war and all they have is some flippin nerve gas to hold us off for about 3.4 seconds.
N. Korea - A totally crazy leader who’s taunting us, an army that thinks they can beat us, and enough nukes to destroy half the world???
Because Iraq is more likely to attack the US.
Because the US can easily beat Iraq, whereas North Korea, not so much so.
Because the US wants Iraq’s oil.
Because the US has committed itself to Iraq.
Because GWB wants revenge.
Because Iraq has invaded other countries in the recent past, whereas North Korea hasn’t (I think).
I’m inclined to agree. There is definitely a double standard. Iraq lets the inspectors come in. North Korea kicks them out. So we threaten Iraq. Iraq, as near as the inspectors, can tell is not making a nuclear weapon. North Korea brags about it. So we have a military build up with clear intentions to attack Iraq. It makes me wonder.
For heavan’s sake we even tried to buy off North Korea earlier this week rather than admit they pose a worse threat than Iraq.
I imagine this will be in GD soon, but I agree with you Mister.
Generally speaking North Korea does not pose as great a threat to US interests as does Iraq.
NK also hasn’t helped terrorists smash planes into the WTC. There are also more countries in that region that can deal with the NK situation. SK has many more people, a larger, better equipped army and GNP about 4 times NK.
China and Japan also have a vested interest in keeping NK “nuke-free.”
In the region surrounding Iraq, there is no country willing to deal with Iraq. At least not to the satisfaction of USA. (Unless of course Saudi Arabia’s pleas to the Iraqi Army to throw a coup party are acted upon.)
Buried under kbg101’s wild ass presumptions (not even Bush has said Iraq was behind 9/11) is something accurate - North Korea is somewhat penned in by China, Russia, South Korea, and Japan, none of which can be defined as friendly with each other and none of which are terribly happy with North Korea talking its smack. It also doesn’t have as many cards to play (such as oil), and we already have a strong military presence in the region (not to mention that we count more on our dealings with Japan, South Korea, and Russia, and probably China, than we do with Iran, Jordan, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia).
Iraq, on the other hand, is a easier target that we have more to gain from. Installing a new government in Iraq isn’t hard… we can pull our old “bomb-the-crap-out-of-Iraq-and-let-“rebels”-take-over-under-supposed-Democracy-so-they-are-more-accepted-by-the-people-and-other-countries-than-a-puppet-government-and-we-don’t-have-to-try-very-hard” gameplan.
Hell, it worked out GREAT when we installed Castro and the Taliban.
The last time we kicked North Korean butts a whole bunch of Chinese spilled across the border and nearly pushed the US off the penninsula. Took a heck of a lot more fighting to settle down at the 38th parallel.
Somehow I don’t think China would be anymore pleased this time around and they DO have nukes!
China is much friendlier with SK than NK. NK has apparently isolated themselves, they have no supporters now.
Does China want to see an American invasion? No.
Does China want NK to have nukes? Again no.
China is in “Kiss The West’s Ass” mode. No way in hell are they going to support North Korea - no way in hell they want NK to have nukes, and China will fall in line with the UN in it. China is already pissed off enough that India and Pakistan have nukes. The LAST thing they want is North Korea growing bollocks and poking America’s Pet- er, South Korea - with a nuclear stick.
Because GWB can’t find OBL, and SH is kinda, sorta, like him? Ok, not really, but a lot of folks do associate Iraq with the WTC attack.
Peace,
mangeorge
Because the grownups running the US foriegn policy can recognize a feint when they see one. NK is doing this deliberately with the cooperation of Iraq in order to get lefties like you and the media to say this exact same thing.
And TV time, Iraq may have let the inspectors in, but they haven’t let them do the job that was agreed to. In other words, they break the agreement and then claim they the little bit they adhered to proves that they are in compliance. Then you guys come along and agree with them.
One other point; do any of you think that maybe, just maybe, the folks with access to the intellegence information might just know something that is going on that you don’t?
If North Korea did something like lob a nuke at Tokyo or Honolulu (as they might be able to soon) then all bets are off. China wouldn’t be able to stop the US from kicking NK ass and would probably tell NK they had it coming for being so stupid.
However, barring NK doing something that really forces the hand of the US then China will most definitely take exception to the US being there. NK is thier backyard and while they don’t like the notion of a nuclear armed NK they don’t like the notion of NK becoming SK.
Communists have to stick together as they are becoming somewhat scarce in the world these days.
To be honest what I really don’t understand is why Beijing isn’t putting the screws to NK to pipe down.
Oh, you guys are gonna love this article:
“How Bush and his junta succeeded in deflecting America’s anger from bin Laden to Saddam Hussein is one of the great public relations conjuring tricks of history. But they swung it. A recent poll tells us that one in two Americans now believe Saddam was responsible for the attack on the World Trade Centre.”
Whack-a-Mole, I wasn’t speaking of the US invading North Korea - I was speaking about North Korea on its own. As you mentioned, China wouldn’t be very positive with North Korea being aggressive, and Beijing would be likely to be “putting the screws to NK.”
In any case, we would never invade North Korea. We would burn it to cinders, but we would’t invade it.
