I recently started a thread about deleting a posting on here because of a privacy concern. There were so many tools who wrote back about how I’m stupid for not knowing that my posts would be public. I knew that they would be public, but they were way easier for me to find than I had previously imagined. I can’t believe people are such tools that they feel the need to get in packs and bully people on here. Losers. Is this how most people are on here? If so, how do I delete my account? GROSS. It’s my bday today and I don’t need this shit. I find it sad that bullies have no problem hiding behind their computers like cowards. I asked a simple question. Get over yourselves.

As engineer_comp_geek explained here, you can’t delete your account. Nor will the moderators delete it for you. He did remove the post with your personal information.
In my opinion, you weren’t being bullied in that thread. Some people have an off-the-wall sense of humor and like to poke fun at everyone, but they’re not being malicious. Strange humor is sort of a trademark of the Dope. If anyone makes a post you find offensive, you can always report it. But if someone is being an asshole, they’re usually acting alone. No one is ganging up on you to harass you. If you stay around longer, you’ll find most of us are sincere and helpful and you’ll learn who is worth paying attention to and who isn’t. I wouldn’t let it ruin your birthday and I hope it is a happy one in spite of how a few isolated people on here act.

Unfortunately, you can’t delete your account either (well, the admins could, but they don’t).
I’d say more that this place LOVES to tease people that inadvertently say something “silly” (note that I put that in quotes for a reason; it’s not the right word but I can’t come up with one). I guess it could be considered bullying, but I consider bullying to be more extreme. You do need a thick skin around here. However, I do find it an enjoyable place to hang out and incredibly informative.

There are several reasons I’m a jerk:

Someone posts something that annoys me because it clashes with my world view - which I viciously cling to for a sense of meaning and importance.

I don’t fully read the post/thread etc. and think someone is saying something that is clashing with the afore mentioned world view.

I want to take a dig at someone smarter/more successful than me, for some reason it makes me feel less inferior.

Someone is being an asshole to someone else - I don’t like that. Most people are not as good a judge of who to be an asshole to as me.
Unfortunately, I’m not a bully so I can offer no insight into that.
Hope the portion of your birthday that isn’t occupied by the realization that people can be rude is a pleasant one.

When you want to complain about people being “tools” or “jerks”/meanies, it’s best not to resort to name-calling because it undercuts your argument (as though you’re not being a jerk too in the post complaining about people being jerks).

I also belatedly looked at the thread to which you refer and must have missed the one that called you “stupid”. It was rather mild ribbing, and I find your (over)reaction rather remarkable and thus will chalk it up to some upset having to do with your birthday.
