I can’t remember how I got here, but I like the general level of intelligence and that mostly people are civilised and follow some reasonable rules. I’ve learned a lot here.
It’s so busy that there’s always something to read.

Been a fan of The Straight Dope for more years than I care to think about. Eventually, I got around to making straightdope.com my default home page, so I could read it every day. Started reading Threadspotting on a regular basis. I think they put a secret ingredient into Threadspotting that gets you addicted. Once you start reading that stuff, you’re hooked for life. I’ve heard that there are rehabs that can help, but I don’t believe it for a minute. . .

Hi sstaurus, just new here myself! I wondered too why all those people were here. I guess the responses here show one of the reasons. Seriously, it is great fun to read through so many diverse, intelligent, irritating and/or humorous posts, that are continually updated.
Here is my story. One day I was looking after the meaning of ‘decimate’, which led me to the Word Detective. Browsing through some of his colums led me to the Straight Dope, and then I was as so many hapless others (hi norinew!) sucked in through Threadspotting. I seriously believe there should be a disclaimer somewhere: looking here will limit your available spare time.
Now I’m reliving the same experience that Einmon so brilliantly describes. But I’m going to kick this habit! Maybe I should post in GQ for advice ont his matter…

I don’t remember how I got here, but I was fleeing from a bliss bunny website that had gone bad – terribly bad. There were only a handful of participants there and almost everyone hated everybody else. They were even hostile about peace!
There are enough participants here for me to have some anonymity – enough that I don’t take even pit comments personally. Any topic is fair game – as are most comments.
Posters here are more intelligent here than on any other forum that I’ve found – and the wit is caustic. But when you need comfort or advice, here it is.
Also, I have a crush on C. K. Dexter-Haven and I thrive on unrequited love!
Aw man, I’ve always wanted to mention Euty in a thread and the one time I do it, I mess up. :smack: But I mean well, I do like to read Euty posts! (Disclaimer: I like to read everyone’s posts.)

I stay because of the intelligent conversation, the elaborate jokes, and the wide range of opinions and perspectives. I love good “ask the…” threads, where I can learn about kinds of people I don’t meet every day.
