It will make a big splash. Hopefully mid-Atlantic ocean.
Why do you want to pollute the ocean?
There are many reasons why I hope this fucker loses the election, but one of things I’m really looking forward to is the furious backpedaling of the congressional toadies who are now licking his boots, who will desperately try to distance themselves from him. I’m really hoping that they are not allowed to get away with it.
If he loses, I don’t think they will back away. He has conclusively demonstrated that the path forward for the Right is to go all-in on breaking democracy. (This was always the Right’s long term objective, of course; they were just proceeding slowly, methodically, and quietly. Trump the opportunist sniffed them out and hijacked their project for his own purposes, forcing them to ramp up and accelerate.) Consequently, a loss at the polls doesn’t mean they regroup and find a new route to victory; it means they will double down on attacking election integrity, claiming that the loss is proof that the system shouldn’t be trusted.
This is the GOP now. Per the oft-quoted maxim, if they find that their version of conservatism doesn’t win elections, they won’t abandon the ideology, they’ll abandon democracy. That’s where they’re at. And Trump, whether in or out of office, or even alive or dead, will be the banner they wave for their cause.
And then depression set in. . .
Hmmm … the Republican Senate will rubberstamp his advisors (Cabinet). That worked out well in 2016
I’m in agreement. But the lesson I think came earlier, with the Obama/Romney election. Their post-mortem said that they couldn’t keep winning because, let’s face it, there were fewer angry white (older) men every year, so they’d have to adapt. Then came Trump, and he proved he could GET the existing angry white men to vote against their interests by making the subtext of the Republican party the main text. And that if you sell enough hate, with a wide enough brush, a party can have a broad base of support, because everyone wants someone to look down on (aside from saints like ourselves! ).
As a not random example, you may feel hated as a first or second generation immigrant and looked down on by white superiors, but hey, you are superior to those new “people” coming in who haven’t had their lumps yet, and how dare they compete with you for your jobs.
Or you might be a white guy barely getting by, or even on disability, but dammit, you were BORN here, you’re entitled to that!
Or you might be a rich guy who cheats on his taxes every single year, but hey, you’re rich, you’re entitled to it, how dare they hire more IRS flunkies with YOUR money to catch cheats! If they were smart, they’d do the same!
