Why vaccinate ???

If the government vaccinates the entire US population, an estimated 3-4 hundred people are going to die due to complications!
Why not use a harmless saline "placebo" solution in it’s place? If Bin-Laden and Co. thinks that releasing such a virus would not give the desired effect, why would they even bother going through the motions?

Because if you don’t vaccinate, millions will get sick and die?

What does bin Laden have to do with vaccination, anyway?

The purpose of terrorism is to prove to the populace that their government is incapable of protecting them. By providing and/or requiring vaccinations, the government would be trying to demonstrate that the people can be protected.

Buzz:
The only justifications for using a vaccine that might kill a certain small percentage of the population that receives it lie in a comparison of the raw numbers. While it sucks that 300-400 people might die as the result of the vaccination, the 250-300 million people that will survive certainly outweigh the downside.
But keep in mind that since the vaccine can be given with good result after exposure, that it will not be necessary to vaccinate everyone up front. I think the window is for about 7-10 days if my memory serves. But if you think the uproar over the 300-400 dead might be bad, imagine the rush to get vaccinated and the recriminations if 300-400 die in an outbreak that might otherwise have been prevented.

Since the 300/400 people likely to die from the vaccine are most likely the elderly, very young, comprimised immune systems and exzema (sp?) sufferers - how about the people that fit that criteria just don’t get vaccinated?

Doesn’t seem worth the risk.

Well, if we’re talking about the whole smallpox vaccination thing…

It wouldn’t be necessary to vaccinate everyone. As LCC points out, you just don’t vaccinate the people most likely to suffer complications–those with AIDS, the elderly, etc etc. Even when smallpox was still active and they were trying to eradicate it, it wasn’t necessary to give everyone shots.

As far as I’ve heard, no one is even considering trying to vaccinate every single person in the US.

This is a duplicate thread.

I’ll close this one and direct replies to Why Vaccinate ???
