In an interview, one of the Capitol Police officers said he did not want to fire the first shot because then the shooting would get out of control. Although one officer was tragically killed, and another video showed an officer jammed in a doorway, for the most part the videos I’ve seen don’t show massive attacks on the police, where clearly the rioters had the wherewithal to do. They did not try to shoot their way in, and many had guns. It seemed that their strategy was to overwhelm the police with numbers, and then go after the Congresspeople and Pence. Aside from the crowd just caught up in a frenzy, a core of invaders seemed to be pretty organized with good comm and plans of the building and if they had reached the legislators things would have been much, much worse.
Did it? I did some googling and, as far as I can tell, not a single police officer has been killed by BLM protestors. The closest this came to happening was " Officer Shay Mikalonis, 29, is paralyzed from the neck down, on a ventilator and unable to speak after being shot in the head during a protest in Las Vegas."
Estimates vary but it looks like about 9 people have been killed as a part of BLM protests with only one being killed by law enforcement.
So protests that have been going around the country for months haven’t produced a body count appreciably bigger than a single protest over the course of a single day, that doesn’t sound like restraint working to me.
It was striking to me over the summer just how everyone seemed to know where the line was and how hesitant everyone was to cross it. It was fine to dance around the line but there seemed to be a mutual agreement that bad things would happen if either side took a big step over the line. I had naively assumed with the free availability of firearms and tensions running hot, police would be routinely fired upon and multiple officers killed (even if it was just by crazy people looking to take advantage of the situation) but this appears to be a false assumption.
Yes, but the shooter was a gang banger in retaliation:
Not a BLM protestor.
This. If that mob had gotten to lawmakers, we’d have had injured and/or dead lawmakers. The attempted storming of the Speaker’s Lobby (which is the entrance to the House) where the woman participant was shot, shows they were determined to get to the members and do mob things. Watch the video of the shooting.
