Why Windows 8 is a failure.

You probably will be, but there is a loss of functionality no one is mentioning: it doesn’t have a frequently used programs list. It has a recently used programs list.

It also doesn’t deal well with DPI settings higher than 120, making the Start button stay on the screen for full screen apps. This was the final straw in removing it from my system.\

BTW, I personally have less of a problem with Windows 8 because I only use a handful of programs anymore. What used to be a lot of different programs has been replaced by one: my web browser. Heck, I go entire days without using another application.

Like I said, they were more articulate and called it “reduced discoverability”.

Every criticism of Win 8 in that article concerns the Metro interface (or “Modern UI”, if that’s what they’re calling it now, whatever). On that front, I think the article is being polite. My personal opinion of the Metro interface isn’t suitable for print.

However, you can easily avoid the Metro interface in Win 8 entirely, by sticking to the desktop mode. Somehow, the article seemed to completely miss that point.

Shut up, BigTard.

You’re an idiot, with nothing remotely resembling ‘life experience’ that anyone else would recognize. Why don’t you learn that, and stop tarding up every discussion you come across?

Well, provided you install third-party software. If you have to use outside assistance to bypass part of a program, that is a fault with the program.

Actually, it can be avoided completely right out the box with the single exception of the Start screen.

When I first used Windows 8 I hated it. I thought that maybe I just needed to get used to something new and given time we would at least fell a certain fondness for each other. NOT! I still hate Windows 8. I DO NOT like that app screen. I feel like my computer came with factory loaded viruses. I do not like having to go through Windows App store. And quit with the corner hover thingy that makes shit pop up on my screen every time I try to ‘Go Back’ or red x out.

But I DO like their Sudoku app, and the calendar thingy that puts todays and tomorrows events on the opening screen.

So why are you still using all those things?

I think you have it backwards on who is coming off “tarded.” None of what you said has anything to do with this thread. No life experience is involved in telling people how computers work.

But, if you want a general answer, the reason I don’t stop something just because some people get mad at me? Because I’ve evaluated the reasons they get mad at me, and they don’t hold up. Getting mad at someone for having a different way of looking at things than you do? One that’s not even contradictory with your own? The problem is not mine. The problem is with you.

I offer my experiences in life the same as everyone else on this board. I realize that my experiences are sometimes different. That is what makes them valuable. After a certain point, getting the same answer over and over is not valuable. Getting a fresh perspective may be.

Unlike a lot of people, I don’t just accept things based on what happens on the surface. I look for underlying reasons why things happen. And, oftentimes I’ve found that my underlying reasoning are a better approximation of what is actually happening than the conventional wisdom. It doesn’t make me “tarded” to offer my reasons that seem better. If there are flaws in my reasoning, you can offer them.

But just generally getting mad at me for “tarding” up the place? Using a name that you know bothers me? Putting it in a thread that has nothing to do with what you’re talking about? Yeah, it’s clear you are trolling me at this point. And if I make a troll mad, do you think I give a shit?

Shut up BigTard, you’re derailing an otherwise interesting thread.

People aren’t getting mad at you, they’re laughing at you. Two far different emotions are involved.

Normally, I’d just let this post stand by itself, as it’s so obviously a last ditch attempt after being completely destroyed, but I’ve recently learned that the people who insult me are even stupider than I thought. So I guess I have to break this down for the tards in the audience.

You made an angry outburst about my posts, telling me I had to stop. You weren’t laughing at me. You didn’t find me funny. You find me frustrating. If you found me funny, you’d be encouraging me.

And because I won’t do what you want, you tried to come up with an insult again. You jumped on the one thing you thought you could argue, not realizing how painfully obvious it was that you were lying.

Yes, I’m derailing a dead thread. By defending myself from an unprovoked attack. What is with you morons?

And are you really so stupid to not realize that, when I do derail a pit thread, I do it on purpose?

If it pisses you off, jump on Cheshire Human or Drunky Smurf or anyone else who decides to insult me out of nowhere. They start the hijack. I just treat them like shit because of it.

And, please, for the love of Og, if you want to insult me, at least come up with something interesting, or I really will have to block you.

Shut up, BigTard.

Block me? Wha? Is that some Uri Geller mentalist trick?

Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha… [breathe]
… bwahahahahahahahahahaha… [breathe]
… bwahahahahahahahaha…
That was a joke, wasn’t it? Damn, but you are a clueless idiot, aren’t you, BigTard?

Awwww, man!!! I just hate to be treated like shit. I’m bummed.
Bwahahahahaha… [breathe]… hahahahahaha…

What a fucking maroon. Do you suppose he went to UChi, or was maroon his high school colors. Ya’ know, the high school he didn’t even graduate from?

Bwahahahahahaha… [breathe]… hahahahahahaha…

What a maroon… [/bugs bunny]

Tablets are not working computers. Phones are not working computers.

Maybe 90% of laptop users would be just as happy with a browser tablet. But Windows seems to be forgetting those of us who want to not only consume content but create it. The PC bridged the gap between casual user and creator for a long time.

The new stuff looks like a toy, and Windows has been getting less customizable over time. Even in Win7, I can’t figure out how to do things I would have done as a matter of course in XP, like customizing my icons so I can differentiate different file types that open with the same program.

If Microsoft abandons working computers for plastic toys, and Apple for glorified Walkman, who builds computers?

My one beef with Windows 8 is that apps such as Skype require you to shift back to the Metro screen which makes it a pain in the ass if you want to toggle between Skype and a web-browser.

I’m using Classic Shell which otherwise makes Windows 8 feel like Windows 7.

I don’t use Skype, so I don’t know how well it works, but they suggest this.
