Why would a goose want to sleep on wet concrete?

we totally generalize animals
i like to sleep on the floor, while others like super soft mattresses

i too was expecting to be posting how to safely extract the goose from cured concrete :stuck_out_tongue:

curing concrete is exothermic, but this seems to be already cured.

i think the weird part is that the goose was tired and comfortable enough to fall asleep in that scenario, i think there might be something else going on, disease or whatever.

to the OP: what happened afterwards?

I’d guess the goose felt safe there because it had a clear view of the area around it. One of the better ways to keep geese out of your retention pond is to have patches of native vegetation around it. Geese need a bit of a start to get flying so they don’t like settling near spots where a predator could jump out and get them before they can get airborne. Unfortunately, the desire for easy maintenance usually supersedes the desire to keep the geese away when people are designing these things.

Yeah, I also thought a chisel was involved…

Like so…

Oh, I’m sorry for the ambiguous wording. It wasn’t “wet concrete” as in freshly-poured. It’s long been set. The concrete was just wet because of the rain. I’m quite sure the goose wasn’t stuck in it, as I went out later in the day and it was quacking (or honking?) around on the grass.

The ground would also have been relatively cold because it’s been wet, cold, and rainy for about a week. No chance for the pavement to warm up in the sun.

Well, shit, that’s an entirely different post…

Joe

Am curious, what if anything provoked this attack? Also, did you retaliate?

not speaking for TruCelt, but IME they’re very aggressive if they think you’re too close to their nest. sucks doubly when you can’t see where the nest is.

I walked into the back yard of my Grandparents house. A white swan. The swan lived in a small pond surrounded by houses, and shared the pond with an alligator. I assumed the nest was across the pond in the reeds, but don’t know for sure. There wasn’t really anything within 150 feet for it to be hidden in.

My Grandfather came out with the broom and chased it off.

I’m sorry, that’s just not good enough. IANAL but I believe we were tacitly promised a goose encased in concrete. You need to make good. I’m sure there are farmers and masons about who would help with the logistics.

A swan is a Canada goose whose attitude was so bad he got thrown out of the flock.*

Canada geese protect their nests & mates. Swans just attack things for the fun of it.

*Not really; it just seems that way.
