I admit it. I’m enough of a Junkyard Wars junkie that I just finished watching their bloopers and out takes special which included some of the audition tapes. What on earth possessed the guys who tried out for the show in drag?!!
Since I know I’m not the only fan out there, others are welcome to check in.

To be noticed, maybe? You saw the size of the pile of audition tapes. If it got them a second viewing, it was worth it.

Maybe they wanted to be on TV really badly, but knew their mechanical skills wouldn’t be enough to get the producers’ attention. So they needed a gimmick to try to stand out.
They wanted attention, and found a way to get it.
Well, pretty much every season they do drag racing.
