I have a vague acquaintance who wears “sweat shorts” over sweat pants. This is paired with some sort of t-shirt product and sneakers. I know how other people dress is none of my business, but I can’t help but find it strange…I’ve heard of layering a short sleeve t-shirt over long sleeves for warmth/fashion purposes, but shorts over pants (same color too) just makes no sense…not even for warmth…wouldn’t boxers/shorts under the pants take care of that… Any theories?
This person wears this outfit to every occasion, I last saw him for coffee in a fancy hotel on Wall Street. He’s a photographer that photographed some clothes for the company I work for.
That could be it…but these are dirty slob sweat pants. Maybe he has crotch holes/stains?
I certainly won’t ask him, it’s rude…it’s just something that I think about whenever I see him. I just can’t even fathom getting up in the morning and thinking, “Hey, I’ll put on black shorts over my black pants.”
Guy used to work for me, sometimes if we came in on the weekend he’d wear blue shorts over gray sweats. With cowboy boots. WTF? This was in Michigan, too. He was a CNC programmer.
As another poster noted shorts OVER sweat pants was the fashion in the 80s. That is what it was a fashion.
Similar to Sheldon of the Big Bang Theory wearing a short sleeve shirt over a long sleeved one. I noticed the thin guy from, the now cancelled, New Adventures Of Old Christine also did this. So maybe that is a way for thin people to bulk up a bit.
the football coaches at my high school did this back in the early 70’s. I thought it was weird then. Maybe they just got really excited at the football practices and didn’t want it to be obvious!
It’s probably because sweatpants rarely have pockets, but shorts usually do. i used to wear shorts over my sweatpants to PE class so that I’d have pockets…I don’t want to trust my valuables to a locker!
I used to do that in college, but it was so that even in the colder months I could still proudly display my t-shirt (usually a band or concert T-shirt). I think this is the same reason Sheldon does it.
I knew Muslim girls in high school who would wear short skirts over jeans, presumably because of modesty…in NYC I’ve seen at least one Orthodox Jewish woman do that…I’ve also seen a bunch wearing a trendy/fashionable top layered over a more concealing basic long sleeve t-shirt.
I had no idea most sweats didn’t have pockets…I honestly never wear them and literally do not own a pair…when I work out I wear shorts and wear jeans otherwise- to sleep/lounge around the house I wear pajama pants. I know it’s odd but I have a thing about going out in public in sweats.
I think my above statement is part of why what this guy wears irritates me so much (it also drives me nuts that he refers to the midsection as the “belly.” Like he’ll tell me, “I told the model to lay on her belly.” Drives me nuts, but I realize I’m just being pedantic.)…I would feel slovenly wearing a dirty t shirt, sweats, and shorts over my sweats out in public, much less to a fancy hotel on Wall Street where everyone else is posh, for a lack of a better word.
