Why would PPS call me?

I got a message on my answeting machine from PPS. Looking up the 800 number leads me to http://www.ppsllc.net/
The message was basically
“this is an automated message from PPS. Please contact us at (#)
our business hours are (x)
we speak spanish”

As far as I know noone owes me money, and if I owed money wouldn’t they leave a more forceful message?

Darned if I’m going to call and set up a “prior business relationship”. (I signed up for the MN do not call list a long time ago. never did the federal one)

Believe me, a collection agency will not call you if someone owes you money.

Either someone has turned you over to them to collect a debt, or they are contacting you because you may know someone they are trying to track down.

Or you have the same/similar name as someone who owes money.

Curiousity got the btter of me. They were trying to reach someone whose name is nowhere near mine. Perhaps the former owner of my phone #?
