No. It is the place of burial, for those who practice this way.
I think they could have.
The Salafine are against all things that seem like shrines or idols, so the physical location goes verymuch against all who are sympathetic to his ideas. The Sufi are inclined to shrines, but in Pakistan the Salafine kill Sufis so there is no sympathy for him. I do not think the compound shall have any great meaning.
Ramira: The only idea that jerk’s followers shared was hatred of America and Americans. If you think there’s no sympathy in Pakistan for the deceased scum, then you haven’t been watching the news.
I do not need American media to tell me of this news. I also know that the followers are very violently opposed to all things like shrines, and in Pakistan they attack those who have shrines. It is also not in the habit of Islam to make shrines out of battle sites. The burial, muqabir, yes in Sufi pratice. If only the geographic spot were to be a gathering place, the building does not even matter to it is stupid to destroy it - the geographic spot remains.
Are you talking about Arlington? The mansion that Lee inherited from his father-in-law? The US government turned it into a military cemetery during the Civil War & we’ve been keeping it well stocked with succeeding wars. And JFK was buried there.
Not everybody who visits Arlington reveres Bobby Lee.
Now there’s word that Umar Patek, the mastermind behind the 2002 Bali bombing, spent some time in Abbottabad too, maybe with bin Laden. Perhaps it’s more ‘on the map’ than we ever realized.
In fact, it’s very much on the map. Google Maps has a “historical site” marker on the spot, with over 1100 reviews. (Many of the reviews promote the out-of-the-way location and privacy, and deplore the lack of Internet access and occasional rowdy American gangs.)
