I’m not a conspiracy theorist, and I not saying I disbelieve this morning’s headlines but…where is the proof of the CIA’s claim that he’s dead? Cuz, y’know, they’ve never lied to the American people before…:rolleyes:
All we have is the CIA claiming they killed him. Where’s the body? “Oh, sorry, we tied a big rock to his ankles and dropped him off the back of one of our battleships. But here’s a piece of paper that shows that his DNA matches up with his sister’s, so it’s all good.”

Imagine something that would make Obama look worse than, in at a critical moment, bin Laden releasing a video of himself talking about events that supposedly happened after his death.
I mean, I guess Obama could always pop his head off and reveal he’s secretly a tentacled alien overlord. But even that might not make him look as bad as he’d look if bin Laden showed him up as a liar.
The proof is you won’t see another new Bin Laden blog.
Come on. If this was not true, Bin Laden would have released a video within hours proving he was still alive. This is too easy a thing to disprove. No one would be stupid enough to lie about this.
I don’t think bin Laden had released any messages in a long time, and when he did, he typically did not respond to events that quickly. But it’s true that Al Qaeda hasn’t denied it, which they certainly would if Obama were lying. And really, the idea of a lie makes no sense. Why now? And for that matter why wouldn’t Bush have lied about it if it were that easy to fake his death? That being said, there’s no physical proof. I expect the photos are going to come out at some point.
Hmm… Assuming that all is as it appears (and I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be), do you think Al Qaeda would release a doctored video doing just this for this purpose?

My personal conspiracy theory is that Bin Laden actually died years ago, of natural causes (although our armed forces never recovered the body- or even looked for it). We were never told this because he made a good boogeyman. Now, though, it’s more politically expedient to say that he’s dead, and that we (by which I mean our government) killed 'im.
According to CNN, the U.S. expects to see the opposite - an “if you’re watching this, I’m dead” video from bin Laden.
If I were bin Laden, I would have had a video made long before my death with a premade paper saying “Osama Bin Laden Killed” and held that up while I spoke, just to make people think I was still alive.
It hasn’t even been 24 hrs. Give the Admin/CIA time to determine how to go about revealing appropriate evidence.
So how do the conspiracists here (whether for real or in jest) explain the Twitter postings of that random Pakastani noting the helicopter crash at exactly the right time and place yesterday?
And why would the Pakistani government be in on it? Surely they will get quite a bit of negative response from their people for allowing a US govt action in their territory.
Yeah. The White House is dithering about whether to release them or not. Even if not officially released, they will certainly work their way out to the public somehow.

Sure, and Obama was born in Hawaii. And they proved it. And a bunch of folks didn’t accept that for proof, so they proved it again, to the same result, wash, rinse, repeat, go buy more shampoo.
Anything can be faked. Would have been more difficult if they had kept the body for examination. We are given that they buried the body at sea, after appropriate religious ritual, in sensitivity to Muslim customs about death and burial. And the only reason I might not believe that is that it is so incredibly smart, I find it hard to accept it was done.

Objectively I think you have to accept that we’ve been told a lot of things happened and not seen any of them - and that’s true for a lot of news, really, but some of this is harder to verify. And you can see where people might think it would be tempting for a government to fake this. But it falls down at the practical level, there’s not much motive to fake it now as opposed to any other time in the last nine-plus years, and if it were this easy, nobody would have waited so long. That’s not even taking into considerationg the risks of getting caught if they did fake it. And at a certain point you have to ask what would prove this was for real. Because with enough resources and determination, you could fake or doctor a body or video, too, right?
It’s more than simply taking the CIA’s word for it, though. There were more players involved than just the CIA. And, as others have said, it would be really stupid for Obama to be in on the lie, or for the CIA to be trying to deceive Obama (assuming that you think Obama isn’t in on it, or something), since if in fact ObL is still alive OR if he died years ago (someone would know, and they’d be able to show proof, such as a decayed body which would also have conclusive DNA evidence and give Obama and the US a huge black eye) that will come out and show all of this to be a lie.
Why would they lie about this now, of all times in any case? If Obama is in on it, he would have waited until the start of the election (or maybe right before it) to unleash this story, since that would have the best impact and heighten his chances of re-election. If Obama isn’t in on it, well, why would the CIA wait until now for such an elaborate deception, and how did they get the Navy and Pakistan on board with going along with the deception?

It will be interesting to see what get put up on al Qaeda web sites. If they want to use his “martyrdom” as an excuse to super-size the jihad, they’ll have to admit that he actually is a martyr.
But the longer we go w/o a video of him, the more people will believe he’s dead. Or Walking with Elvis.
