Why'd they pick this particular guy for the job?

There’s a news story [link requires registration, but is free] today that circumcision appears to significantly reduce tranmission of AIDS.

It’s unclear that finding will have health implications because of the difficulty of persuading adult men to…um…opt for the procedure. But it’s a useful finding in this struggle.

It seems to be in the news because the World Health Organization is having an International AIDS Conference and will feature a presentation on this specific issue.

The presentation will be given by the Director of WHO’s HIV/AIDS Program…

Kevin De Cock.

I’m sure the rest of the story is serious and deals with grave issues critical to the well-being of many people.

But I’m laughing too hard to keep reading.

Sailboat

OMYGOD. That’s fuckin’ hilarious!

I suspect Kevin will have a long road ahead of him, lined with stiff opposition with a head full of steam from the male front. He’ll have to bone up on his arguments and provide solid reasoning behind the thrust of his research if he’s to offer firm conclusions that men could get behind. No skirting around the edges here; he’ll have to trim the fat if he wants to drive his point home in a clear and concise manner.

With any luck, he might nip this thing in the bud.

But isn’t the thrust of the campaign…?

Oh, never mind.

I’m assuming from previous campaigns that the idea is to circumcise your newborn, not yourself.

These findings will cut him to the quick…

Very good.
