Wi-fi mystery

We just rented a beach house and was told it had internet. I set up my pc, and sure enough I connect with three bars to Network 3 public.

My daughter turns on her Macbook. It detects Network 1 and Network 2, both password protected.

She brings her computer right next to mine, and she still detects Network 1 and Network 2, doesn’t see Network 3.

What could be going on here?

What OS are you running?

Try entering “ipconfig /all” in cmd and see what the default gateway is. Then compare them with the default gateway from the networks she sees on her Mac. It might just be a naming problem.

I have heard of certain routers being unable to host Macs, but that was usually old hardware. And I haven’t heard of the Mac being completely unable to find them.

You can also try to set the SSID (network name) and password manually for the Mac, in the sense of “hidden” networks. It should work. (You can do this under Airport - in the general screen, just hit the “+” button in the wifi network list to manually add one. Then just fill in the form.)
