Uh, that Twinkie hardly looks “as new as the day it was made”, and for the record, foods like that dry out before they have a chance to get moldy or rot, with little change in their appearance when they dry out; a real test would put them in a sealed container so they stay moist. Just like the claims that McDonalds hamburgers last forever (they don’t; don’t watch if you can’t stand the sight of some VERY putrid hamburgers; the lack of mold on their fries is probably due to the oil (the video was also made before they removed trans fats) and salts more than preservatives).

When I was a kid, I heard the urban legend about Twinkies lasting “forever”. When I was an adult, I learned that was an UL. In the context of how ridiculous it is that folks are hoarding Twinkies, I thought 'Dopers would get a (grossed-out) laugh out of the article I linked to. My hyperbolic language was an exaggeration for comedic purposes. I probably should have added “[insert link to ‘drama’ music effect here]”
