So ever since they ran the ethernet under the house (basement) we’ve only been able to see her computer TRY to sign on the wifi, and all we get is a very short (what looks like a) pop-up, and that’s it. The router is a Netgear and I am trying to download books on my Kindle.

Anyone know a fix for this? The router is a Netgear. WGR614.

Thanks,

Quasi

I had a similar issue once.

After extensive troubleshooting, it turned out to be a short in the ethernet cable between the modem and the wireless router. Yeah, I know. Weird… but that’s what it was.

Try swapping out all the cables.

Thanks, Astroboy D got it fixed by a friend of hers who signed on remotely and corrected it.

When I asked her what was wrong, she said, "I have no idea. He started talking, using a lot of technical language and when was finished talking, he had fixed it. Took about 10 minutes.

Thhanks, though!

Quasi

If you can find out what the problem was, I’d be interested to know.

It could have been something as simple as changing the channel it was broadcasting on…

I’ll get D to call Mike for you, Astroboy14, and get the “straight dope” for you!

Thanks

In my experience, this can be caused by MAC access control. The first thing I’d do is try disabling all security and see if it connects.
