Wii Fit: Have You Tried It?

I’ve got Wii Fit, I mainly use to measure my weight and BMI and track my progress toward my weight goal. I think it is ideally used in conjunction with outdoor or gym activities, however it would be really good if you had it set up in front of a treadmill so you could use the jogging game as motivation while you run for real instead of running on the spot.

There is also a new version “Wii Fit Plus” scheduled to be released later this year. From the sounds of it, it’s a relatively minor update, but it does address some of the issues with Wii Fit. It allows for setting up a series of exercises, so you don’t need to navigate the menu after each one, and it tracks the number of calories you’ve burned.

That sounds like it might have potential. Based on comments here, Wii Fit isn’t quite worth it as is.

However, it does sound like getting a Wii + EA Sports Active + DDR would be the ultimate in fitness fun, all for the cost of a couple months at my ex-gym.

There’s a bundle that includes Wii Play with basic arcade-style games…worth it??

Wii Play is worth it if it’s bundled with a second controller (Wiimote/Wii Remote); normally another remote is $40, and typically that bundle is sold for $50. It’s a set of simple games designed to teach you how to use the remote. They’re cute and pretty fun, but not mindblowing.

You’ll also need a Nunchuck controller for either Wii Fit or EA Sports Active - this plugs in to the end of the remote, allowing for things like the Wii to track both hands in a boxing game, and so on.

If you’re doing DDR and treadmill and Bowflex… I’m thinkin’ Wii Fit is going to be fun, but easy for you.

Does EA Sports Active let you have more than one profile for other family members?

While I have you all here  have any of you used My Fitness Coach? Yep, I’m filling up my shopping cart on Amazon right now.

Yup, and they have a split-screen mode where two can exercise at once - off the top of my head I don’t recall if this works for all exercises. (The other person would have to have another resistance band and “holster”; they sell extras separately.)

Link to their website if you’re curious.

Side note: The upper body exercises are really pretty low-impact. It would probably take some hand weights and a tough resistance band from a store to get anything serious from them. Consider it mostly an aerobic-type exercise system.

Good. Yep, I saw that there’s a split-screen mode for two people, just wasn’t sure that both people got independent profiles. Sounds great!

So here’s my purchase decision, to arrive from Amazon Friday (yay!):
Wii
Wii Play
with bonus controller
EA Sports Active
My Fitness Coach for core/flexibility stuff

and DDR to be purchased later as a reward for some goals I’ll set
