I know the next rev is coming out, or perhaps is out. While renting a movie tonight the video store had two Rock Band for Wiis left, for $100. Damned the torpedoes, I bought one for the kids for Christmas,
I understand the next Rev has, obviously different songs, but apparently better instruments too.
The kids are 9 and 11, and we will certainly rock with them. Should I return Rev one and wait for Rev 2, or is this a good deal?
Hell no. At $100 you got a steal. It’s still retailing in most places for $160 and there’s no way you would pay less than that for Rock Band 2 with instruments when it comes out. You’ll be able to get RB2 with just the disk for $50 when it comes out if you want to add it. On top of that there are three expansion packs for the Wii version; Track Pack 1 & 2 and an AC/DC pack. The Track Packs are good deals; half the songs but half the price. The AC/DC is four-fifths the price and one-third the songs so I wouldn’t bother unless you really want AC/DC songs.
The Wii version’s definitely the weakest of the current gen, but if that’a the console you have, I’d definitely pick it up. Get the RB2 disc version when it comes out, one or both of the track packs if you want them, but yeah - good deal, good pick up.
You reminded me of encountering some kids in the store impressed at the graphical upgrade for the XBox360 version of Guitar Hero. I pointed out to them that all they’re going to be watching are colored dots descending the screen.
Yeah, the Wii version of Rock Band shows some clear signs of “Oh my god, we have to ship this now!!” with some strange choices of what to cut out but the game play itself is intact and just as solid as other version.
I was playing a bit of RB2 on the weekend and I’ve got a real problem with Metallica’s “Battery”. The song’s pretty rancid, but it’s almost unplayable because of the effects they use.
You know that wide-eyed, thousand yard stare that you get when you’re playing a game, trying to passively take in the movement on the screen rather than look directly at a point on it?
Now have someone flash a strobe at you non-stop for four and an half minutes while you’re doing it.
I have no idea why they want to give me a blinding headache, but they do. I’ve played this song twice and ended up with a near-migraine each time. I’m not going to play it again. I don’t care if I need to play it to unlock things, it’s not gonna happen. Those bits are no longer part of the game as far as I’m concerned.
