Every time I’ve looked up some scientific theory, principle, or law on wikipedia I have to wade through a ton of formulas and technical details to get a general understanding of the topic.
Is there another site with similar breadth of knowledge, but written for amateurs, dilettantes, and other people who aren’t in that field of study (whichever ones cover the article you’re reading)?
This forum is great for getting the sort of understanding I want, but I much prefer finding answers on my own. (I feel kind of guilty asking about something that’s probably already answered online somewhere).
Exactly what I was thinking of suggesting. Except that it doesn’t really have the articles that the OP is looking for. The really technical stuff doesn’t get explained well enough for most laymen. I wish I could find a good example.
A good example of where the Simple English Wiki DOES shine might be Quantum Mechanics. Compare the regular Wikipedia and Simple English versions.
When I inadvertently wade into one of those articles with the arcane formulas and the esoteric “beginning” vocabulary, I just Google the topic, and poke around in a few of the sites listed. Frequently, one of them provides one thing I need, and a different one provides something else. It’s sort of like doing your own research. In fact, it is doing your own research. (Research here meaning to find out what others have found out and make your own sense out of it all.)
