Wilfred series finale (open spoilers)

I know we haven’t had a thread about Wilfred for the past two seasons, but has anyone else kept up and watched the finale last night?

I thought the first episode was the better of the two - I don’t even like dogs, and I was sad when they put Wilfred down. The second half was the end of the mystery wrap up - It boils down to Ryan was the mentally ill child of two mentally ill parents, both of whom saw their pets as people who talked to them, and when he finally realized this and started to get better, he decided he preferred being mentally ill. Frankly I thought it was kind of lame. Anyone else have a different take on it?

My take wasn’t that he preferred being mentally ill, he just accepted that he was. I personally loved the series as a whole, and was quite happy with the finale.

I do have one question about the final episode: Just before Ryan leaves the house, he stops, turns, opens the closet door and then says “Oh!” like something makes sense now. The camera stays inside the closet looking out, showing Ryan’s reaction. What was in the closet?

At first I thought it was the basement door, and that there was no basement. Similar to a couple seasons ago when he opened the basement door and it turned out he didn’t have a basement, that door just opened to a pantry. But in the scene in the finale, he was upstairs at the time, so it wasn’t the basement door.

I’m so PLO.d that the show switched channels to FXX, which I don’t get on my cable package, from FX, which I do. Prick move.
Hoping the final season will be on Netflix soon.

When i saw the first episode i called it fight club with Tyler Durden as a dog, turned out to be right on the money. I agree the next to last episode was “better”, I didn’t stop crying from the first shot of “real” Wilfred until the end. I also agree that Ryan was happier being ill than trying to be normal. I guess Ryan killed Wilfred by continuously smoking in a closet with him? cause that’s kind of sad.
