Will American troops ever fight in a deciduous forest again?

When you watch the current conflicts on the news, everything is always the same drab shade of sun-baked desert. Everything in the way of war seems to be occurring in the Middle East right now, and insomuch as there can be an “aesthetic” of a war decade, the 2000s have been very dusty and tan.

When I watch movies about World War II, seeing American troops fighting in deciduous forests is almost surreal because it seems like so long ago and so far removed from any recent conflict. During the whole of my lifetime, from 1986 until now, “war” has meant “desert.”

Are we ever going to have to break out the woodland fatigues?

Is there any chance of some shit going down in the forest?

There are some densely forested areas in Bosnia. (I am certainly not saying the US will ever be back there, but it’s not beyond the scope of imagination)

There will always be conflict in a jungle setting somewhere in the world. Woodlandpattern won’t help much, but don’t pitch the Tiger Stripe.

Kunar province in Afghanistan, heavily forested in some areas, and mountainous. As are a lot of areas.

Quite a lot of Iraq where there was fighting was green as hell.

28th Infantry Division troops in Ramadi.

Should read up on geography, young man before making such comments.

When we get invaded on our own shores, some fighting will take place in forests.

Operation Enduring Freedom - Philippines.

Wolverines!

Remake to be released at Thanksgiving this year.

Well that’s something to look forward too. Don’t forget about Canada. If we ever invade them (like for oil or maple syrup) there’ll be plenty of fighting in forests.

I believe North Korea is still heavily forested, although apparently a lot of trees are being cut down.

[Rick]There are certain sections of New York, Major, that I wouldn’t advise you to try to invade.[/Rick]

If those damn Smurfs don’t mend their ways, there will be!

Sure, when the Russkie hordes break through the Fulda gap…wait, which way does time go, again ?

Deciduous? Pff. What about Coniferous? When do we get to invade those damn Canucks!?

Has the USA ever fought in a tundra or Antarctica-like place? Because that would be kinda cool, forgive the pun.
