Will an Elric movie or TV series ever happen?

Why has no one tried to do this?

Because Elric makes Game of Thrones look like My Little Pony?

  1. Because Michael Moorcock is largely unknown outside the hardcore fantasy geek community.

  2. Because the books aren’t very good. Sure the’re very grimdark and all, but the world isn’t that fleshed out, there aren’t that many interesting characters, and besides the 9th-inning Gotterdammerung, there isn’t really that much of an overarching plot. I tried reading them recently after 20 years or so, and they just aren’t well-written.

They’re just not very popular titles in the end. I have a fondness from childhood for them but how big is the fan base?

Bigger than the fanbase for Guardians of the Galaxy was in 2013, I’d bet.

I agree the books aren’t particularly well-written, but I don’t see why that matters at all: the characters and settings and events are cool.

I understand that Fifty Shades of Grey wasn’t even close to literary genius, for instance.

I heard that the Producers of the Jerry Cornelius movie bought up the film rights to all Moorcock books as they thought it was going to be the start of a great franchise. I’m not sure if that was all Moorcock books, or just the ones with Jerry in.

Because then there’ll be nothing left for progressive rock bands to adapt into rock operas.
