Will burning my tongue hurt my sense of taste in the long-term?

There’s a thread about why kids have different tastes than adults and one idea is that adults may have fewer taste buds. I was wondering something relating to that.

When I drink tea or coffe, or eat hot food, I’ll sometimes burn my tongue a little bit when I take the first sip or bite. I lose some of my taste on the burned part, but it comes back in not too long. However, could this be doing long-term damage to my sense of taste? I’m not as careful about it as I could be if I had to.

Since one’s taste buds cover your tongue and each and every taste bud can taste the entire range of flavors, from salty to sweet to sour to bitter, one would think burning some would not completely hinder one’s tasting ability.

Plus, their life cycle is around 6 weeks anyway, so even relatively badly burned tongue should be like new in one and a half of month, tops.
