By their private life, I basically mean:
- Bill’s affairs(known and alleged)
- Hillary’s affairs(alleged)
- Lewinsky scandal
- Rape allegations(Juanita Broaddrick)
It’s obviously poor form…very, very poor form to go there. Will Trump do it tonight?

There’s already a thread about what will be talked about in the debate. But of COURSE he will. He’s been tweeting about that today. And the Breitbart Army has been pushing their new video all day as well. It’ll be nothing but Bill’s alleged transgressions and the Clinton Foundation from him all night.
Even if he promised his campaign he wouldn’t, he will. Lousy impulse control, remember?
I hope he mentions it with his usual fillip about how he’s not going to mention it.
Why is it obviously very very poor form?
And then can’t stop himself from rambling on and on about it, getting angrier and more out of control, diverging into jeremiads about the GOP traitors, climaxing in storming off the stage, as moderators, audience, Clinton and the world look on slack-jawed.
And as the dust settles, Hillary turns back to the moderators and says quietly, “Now you were asking about…” and proceeds to discuss policy issues with calm, assured insight.
He’s going scorched earth from what I hear. Expect all-of-the-above to hit the floor.
He’s a cornered possum. So he’s going to fight meaner and nastier than ever. Razor teeth tearing flesh, tiny claws scratching and slicing, snarling, frothing, bloody.
He has become the worst thing he could ever imagine becoming: A loser. Very few people or institutions are still supporting him, and he knows this, so he’s a loser with absolutely nothing to lose.
I can’t wait! Before the first debate I was all this. But now before this one I’m this.
He’s been doing it already. And personal vindictiveness is all he *knows *how to do.
Given what a wreck his private life has been, it would be plainly idiotic of him.
So, yeah. Undoubtedly.
It’s at the very least exceedingly stupid. Like invading Russia grade stupid.
I’m visualizing a scene written by Paddy Chayefsky, but for real.
Actually the worst part about this whole thing is many, many people still support him ( institutions, which always have broader concerns, less so ) and will continue to do so. Which is why he had well-wishers gathered around Trump Tower last night, why his supporters heckled folks like Paul Ryan and Mike Heck yesterday and why I expect him to go the distance no matter how badly he is trailing. I mean 30-40% of the electorate is a WHOLE LOT of people - many millions. No matter what he will be able to whip up highly enthusiastic crowds to feed his ego until the very end. And likely ever after until his death he will probably still be a “beloved” figure and hero to some certain percentage of tone deaf people.
Trump’s fans aren’t real big on recognizing stupid, so I doubt it’ll cost him much in the way of support. His core is a bunch of seething ignoramuses who believe utter nonsense about Clinton, and Dem policy in general. Trump being a colossal prick makes him seem stronger to that sort.
I should’ve clarified politicians and other big names. The fleeing rats.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: leading with “I’ve explained in detail how I’ve sexually assaulted various women, but you – well, you haven’t, of course; but some folks claim you know a guy like me” probably isn’t the smartest opening move.
But he can’t win with just that core, and bringing this stuff up will lose him even more support among those who still might vote for him even though they aren’t in that core. If you’ve been paying attention, Trump has lost a great deal of support just since his tape came out on Friday.
There is a certain core that as Trump has said will support him even if he went out and shot someone in the face. While he might be getting down to just that core, he still has a little way to go.
Of course he will bring it up. He’s going to lead with it.
Well, that, or collapse in a brain-dead catatonic stupor. One of the two.
We really need Warren Buffett to take on the Ned Beatty role to come around and give Trump the, “You will atone!” speech. Or for Trump to devolve into a whirling maelstrom of protomatter on stage.
Stranger
Because it’s a case of the pot calling the kettle black, in that if he opens this door by commenting on Bill’s transgressions, it allows Hillary to bring up all of Donald’s. She won’t have to take the high road.
A piece of advice my father once gave me (though he stole it from someone else, I have no doubt) is this: when you point your finger at someone, you have three pointing right back at you.
