Maybe you’re right - there have been at least 3 ST-related threads in the forum over the past week. Let’s see how many Land of the Lost discussions have been held over the past ten years. Or have Dopers decided that this is the one thing that interests them that they refuse to talk about? Is there a massive Land of the Lost conspiracy of silence on the SDMB?
Seriously, Sampiro. This is one instance in which you have truly parted ways with the cultural zeitgeist.
A cultural touchstone to Gen Y? I find that hard to believe. I was a tiny thing when the 1974-1976 series was on, & I don’t quite consider myself Gen Y. I did watch some of the 1991-1992 revival. (Now you mention it, there was a sense of circular time in one episode, which was arguably spooky cool.) Is that what you mean when you speak of a Gen Y following?
The thing I remember most of LotL watching it as a kid was that obvioulsy toy boat going down what looked like a bathtub drain. Sorry, Sampiro but I am with most of the others here, it just wasn’t that much of a cultural touchstone you percieve it to be.
I wasn’t even born yet when the original series was on. Perhaps there’s a slight mislabeling of generations? Or I’m of a younger generation than I’d thought.
I am rather disgusted by the idea of this movie, though. Mainly because it looks stupid and it’s more of Will Ferrell doing everything Will Ferrell shouldn’t do. Then again, Night at the Museum had looked equally stupid and I ended up loving that movie.
The odds of Will Ferrell’s Land of the Lost having a surprise reveal of a sexy pharaoh with great abs who makes Caerie love the movie seem to be rather low, though.
You know, I think the same sort of thoughts about the asswipes who dug up the corpse of that chessy-but-fun show Battlestar Galactica and fucked it in the ass. But apparently it’s OK to shit on that memory for some reason. Maybe becuase the new show is so dark, edgy and political.
Will Ferrell was actually very good in Stranger than Fiction.
