Will FOTR be re-released along with Two Towers?

Since Two Towers isn’t really a sequel but more the second part of the same film it would be great if FOTR could be released again at around the same time. Then when Return of the King is released all three can be released at the same time.

I bet there are many people who would like the films together and I suspect the re-release would make a nice bundle.

Actually what would be super-cool is for FOTR to be released on IMAX through digital re-mastering. If any film deserves the IMAX treatment it is FOTR(and then its sequels).

It would be amazing if we are eventually able to see all three of them together on IMAX.

Is there any possibility of this? Certainly it seems a good bet in commercial terms considering the number of die-hard LOTR fans out there.

There has been some talk of a limited theatrical release of the extended version of FOTR.

It would be out sometime inbetween November 12 and the Two Towers.

I doubt they have time to do IMAX. It seems like the IMAX is only a recent phenomenon for major motion pictures. I know one little theater that will probably play. It’s owned by a independently wealthy film afficianado, has only 12 seats but they are big leather recliners. I don’t think his receits are part of the overall receits reported.

I hope it makes at least 4.3 million in the US. Push it past Harry Potter.

I really doubt they’re going to IMAX it and if they do it’s not going to be a good thing. IMAX screens have a different aspect ratio then a normal movie screen. In other words they’re shaped more like your television set than a movie screen.

For some movies that isn’t a problem since they can open the top and bottom of the frame and you’ll see more even if it’s not framed as the director intended (and some do shoot with the idea of openning up the frame in mind). But Fellowship was particularly effects heavy. The problem with special effects is that they’re expensive to do so filmmakers only do them as they need them. That means they can’t open up the frame on those shots (and when you include the forced perspective shots I’d guess that’s more than half the film) and have to cut off the sides.

So Fellowship of the Rings might be bigger and louder on IMAX but the granduer is going to be lost with the wide screen.

My knowledge of the technicalities of IMAX and film is limited so I am not sure I understand your argument . However for Appolo 13 it is said that the launch scene, presumably with special effects,is especially spectacular so I am not sure why LOTR special effects would be different.

In any case regardless of IMAX I still hope they will release FOTR and release all three eventually.

With IMAX, there’s a limit of 2 hours on the movie’s length. They had to edit Apollo 13 to get it under the limit. They also edited some other scenes out, to make it more “family friendly,” including the scene of Mrs. Lovell in the shower.

Hmm that might be a problem. But can’t they just break the movie into two parts ?

Umm, I think that’s pretty well guaranteed. Even Pluto Nash made that much, I think. Misplaced decimal point?
