My fault. So change NBC to ABC (and CBS), but the post will apply to NBC if they do fire Fallon and/or Meyers.
This make me wonder if there is more going behind the scenes with South Park having to delay the airing of the recent episode.
He has dumped on FOX many times, and it hasn’t made much of a difference.
I just assumed the episode was ready to go but either criticized Trump or, and I’m not sure even South Park would do this, a follow up to the Charlie Kirk episode.
It’s hard to believe the people that have, famously, been cranking out episodes in 6 days for the last 2+ decades, suddenly couldn’t produce one in two weeks.
I suppose there’s also a chance they’re working their contract in such a way they can get fired, but still keep their billion and a half dollars.
Has Trump ever gotten anyone from Fox fired? Not just ‘dumped on’ Fox, but got Fox to fire someone for something they said. Especially if he threatened (empty or otherwise) to revoke their broadcasting license. In other words, has Trump ever censored (or more specifically, used the government to censor)Fox? A quick search suggests some people have been fired by Fox because of something they said about Trump, but I’m not sure it was Trump trying to silence them but rather Fox firing them in an attempt to protect Trump. I also see someone (Jennifer Griffen) that Trump tried to get fired, but she wasn’t (ie ‘We made an episode as per the contract, it’s not our fault you’re choosing not to air it’).
I just don’t understand how this works.
Don’t the local affiliates have more power?
I do not know anything about Fallon and Myers, but I presume they are being advised to “turn down the temperature” so that NexStar and Sinclair don’t go after them next, and to avoid NBC being totally Trumpified. How can we expect these men to react to that?
Turn up the temperature.
Why?
I can see there being no point in doing anything else. If they are going to cancel you regardless, why not go out in a blaze of glory? But what is the actual benefit of speeding up the process where the autocrat takes over a country’s media?
This is not NBC but may be relevant:
‘The View’ Panel Oddly Silent About ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ Being Pulled by ABC
I don’t condemn them, especially without hearing their defense.
Why? So that you can look yourself in the mirror in the morning, for one thing. And so you have credibility to fight on, in another venue. Those who comply in advance lose all respect of those who see them as vital in talking truth to power.
This is not a free speech issue.
Kimmel and Colbert earn a paycheck from networks by generating money from advertisers. When that stream of revenue is jeopardized because they piss off consumers (not viewers) then the networks move on to shows that generate money from advertisers.
Is there any evidence their consumers are pissed off? All I see is MAGA tears, and they don’t watch Kimmel.
Are these the same consumers that gave him high ratings then and support him now?
You don’t think companies know their sales base? Republicans spend money just like Democrats.
Over 60 affiliate stations refused to air the show.
Read what I wrote. it’s not about viewership. It’s about consumers. They don’t have to watch the show to affect purchases of a product.
You are confusing consumers with viewers.
That makes no sense. Why would they refuse to air the show if they didn’t know what he would say beforehand?
You said it was about consumers.
Not totally, perhaps, but yesterday Brendan Carr, Chairman, Federal Communications Commission, said ”We can do this the easy way or the hard way.” It went the easy way — that being self-censorship.
Does anyone know if NexStar and Sinclair pulled their plugs before or after Carr’s threat?
And you seem to confuse them with viewers.
Maybe we need to clarify if consumers are viewers or local affiliates. I guess, though, it is a bit of both.
Did you ever ask yourself why all the latenight hosts are liberal? Because that’s what the market wants. Advertisers follow viewers. The only poll they care about is eyeballs. Your contrast between viewers and consumers is a distinction without a difference.
Perhaps those “consumers” are the stations owned by Sinclair, the same company that is airing a ridiculous pro-Kirk rah rah show in Kimmel’s time slot on Friday. The same Sinclair group that is trying to blackmail Kimmel into making a public apology and contribute to Kirk’s organization?
