I’m in the process of starting a second job. I work in an office about 40 hours a week, and in an effort to earn some money to pay off some of the debt I’ve accrued years ago, I’m taking a part time job (4 hours in the evening, and probably some weekends).
I was curious–how much time does the average Doper spend at work? What’s your usual work hours, and do you feel that it’s too much, not enough, or just about right?
What kinda shape is the soul in? Are you now or have you ever been a lawyer, doctor, or elected official? Such jobs can cause excessive wear and tear on a soul…
I’m currently at work 8:15 - 17:45, no lunch break, M-Th and 8:00 - 15:00 F. Actual worked time is very little though, so I’m going to change to a job with, hopefully, less face time. I am the only person I know who doesn’t think that being paid to sit down and let your ass spread is a Good Thing.
OTOH, if I could get paid to play WoW, that would be a Good Thing. So long as I didn’t need to document it
8:30 AM - 5:00 PM here. One Saturday a year. I work PT in the evenings too - Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 5:30 - 9:30 (selling clothes). You wouldn’t think it would be so tiring, but I think it’s sheer boredom most of the time. I’m sure that will be alleviated with the holiday sales rushes.
I heard that the unemployment rate is 4-4.5% these days, which the powers that be say is a good rate. On the other hand, the jobs themselves aren’t very good, forcing folks to work more than one job to make ends meet. I work 40 stressful hours per week. I feel very lucky.
I have a 40 hour weekday job, and a part-time evening and weekend job that ranges between 24 and 30 hours a week. At first, it was difficult getting used to the new sleep schedule…then I had to work on making sure I got chores done before being lazy and goofing around on my days off. I’m much better with that now, and I appreciate my time off more. Sometimes it’s hard, leaving one job just to go to another, but it allows me the freedom to live on my own and do what I want. Pay some bills too.
