Will Titanic be beaten?

Actually, both SHREK and MONSTERS INC consciously aim to appeal to a wider audience, with humor that flies over the heads of younger viewers. Neither one is designed to be a kids movie. So it’s not surprise that they were huge successes.

[QUOTE[You’re right that a typical best-seller only sells a million or so. However, we’re not talking about a typical best-seller. The Harry Potter books have sold over 35 million copies in the US. (A figure that’s even more remarkable when you consider how heavily kids rely on libraries for their books.) So we’re talking ten million fans or more. How does having ten million people pre-sold on your movie hurt its box-office chances?**[/QUOTE]

I never said that HARRY POTTER would not be a huge success. I have merely been pointing out that the success of the books in no way leads us to consider it even a remote possibility that it will surpass TITANIC as the all-time box office champ.

I imagine even the film’s distrubtor has no such illusions, nor (probably) do they even care. They’ll make far more money off of merchandising tie-ins than from ticket sales.

Yeah, but HARRY POTTER ain’t gonna do it, at least not on a scale to match TITANIC.
