Will Victoria be the next KING of Sweden?

Nope. Prince Phillip’s title is Duke of Edinburgh. He was granted this before his marriage, I believe, by Queen Elizabeth’s father.

When Albert married Victoria, on the other hand, Parliament refused to grant him any sort of peerage or title, until she finally came up with Prince Consort. (Some accounts have said she wanted him to be King Consort, and this was refused).

Phillip has never been formerly granted the title of Prince Consort.

Great reference, Case Sensitive!

Parliament does not grant titles, the sovereign does. She did want him to become king consort, but there was alot of opposition to him since he was a foreigner. The Prime Minister, Lord Melbourne, advised her against making him king. Albert was offered peerages (like the last male royal consort) but declined them as he felt they were beneath him as a Duke of Saxony. He was made a Prince of the UK and elevated to “Royal Higness” (he was born a “Serene Higness”) a few days before the wedding.

Ah, okay. I knew there was some snafu or more involved. Thanks.

Hi-dee-hi-dee-hi-dee-hi!

You live and learn. I’d always thought of Phil the Bubble as a prince consort, though he’s not usually called such, but it never occurred to me to find out whether he was a Prince Consort with a capital PC. Ignorance fought!
