I received a package from overseas containing chocolates and cookies, etc. There was a sticker on the box that said the box had been x-rayed. I’m 99% sure that it wouldn’t affect the cookies and candy in any way, but I wanted to double check. Would x-rayed food be toxic in any way? How would the X-rays affect the food if at all?
No, they are much safer xrayed, because that kills germs.
Might break a protein bond here or dissociate a water molecule there, but not enough to cause any harm. There’s a very, very slim chance you’ll glow slightly afterwards. Ok, I made that last part up.
Not at the level of your typical Customs x-ray inspection.
I worked around implanters some years ago and was required to wear a radiation badge which was analyzed every 30 days to determine if I had been exposed to dangerous levels of radiation. I had to travel on business occasionally and stupidly carried my company badge, with the radiation badge attached, in my carryon luggage, which then went through the xray machine. When the report came back on that badge, it showed a very small dose that was completely non-harmful. Apparently not only can your food safely go through the machine, you can too! (at least once)
A small dose might produce mutant Ninja E-Coli :eek:
