The price is undisclosed, though we’ve called to ask and will update if the broker gets back to us. Now before we start really panicking, I think it’s highly unlikely that someone’s going to buy Willow Springs to raze it and build tract housing. It’s way out in the high desert north of Los Angeles, for one, and the way it’s being marketed makes it clear the family wants a buyer who will continue to operate the track.

But—I think there’s a very good chance that this ends with one of the oldest road racing tracks in the country being transformed into a high-end playground with private garages and trackside condos for rich enthusiasts, based on the “investment opportunities” described in the listing:

I used to live in Lancaster, and I’ve been to Willow Springs to watch motorcycle races. There’s something about sitting out in the desert on a late-Spring or Summer day, watching bikes go really fast. I really hope it survives.

In all seriousness, all the LA YouTube car channels (Donut? You listening?) should band together and buy it.

Very much like “The Thermal Club”. A race track surrounded by homes and garages. I watched an Indy Car race from that track a few months ago, it was like watching the cars race through a neighborhood. It is very much a country club for car enthusiasts.

I told my wife about this news, and, surprisingly, she’d never gone to a race there. And she lived in Rosamond before moving to Lancaster for high school.
