Wimbledon 2025

The first day and #9 Medvedev has already crashed out. He departed in the first round at Roland Garros as well. Second round at AO. Not a great year for Daniil so far.

#20 Ostapenko also out. Probably didn’t enjoy the crowd support for her opponent much either.

Wouldn’t be surprised is #9 Badosa went out to #43 Boulter. Tough matchup first up for Paula.

Good shout!

Alcaraz was given a real scare by Fognini: World No2 against a 38 year old in his final season didn’t look tough on paper, but it went the distance and Alcaraz looked pretty shaky at points, not least because Fognini was playing some incredible shots.

A nice exit from Fognini in some ways, but I think it’ll sting for a while.

Qinwen Zheng and Jessica Pegula went out to very unthreatening looking opponents.

I’m really hoping Rybakina comes good at this tournament. But with very mixed feelings. She’s flushing her tennis career down the toilet for a toxic relationship. Ugh!

Sinner destroys Djokovic pretty easily to go to final. Fritz fights, but loses to Alcaraz.

After all the carnage in the earlier rounds, not much wrong with the finalists on either side. Anisimova wasn’t a pre-tournament favorite but she’s had a very good year.

The men’s final is a mouthwatering prospect. Sinner and Alcaraz just served up an all-time classic final at Roland Garros.

Wow, when was the last time a Wimbledon final was a bagel?

6-0, 6-0

Embarrassing.

I wasn’t able to watch the match. I don’t think this has ever happened in the open era, though.

Apparently I am wrong. Stefi Graf beat Natasha Zvereva 6-0, 6-0 in the French Open final in 1988.

That was a hard act to follow. Their Wimbledon final match today was pretty good, though. Alcaraz came from a break down to win the first set — the last point of which was great fun.

Then Sinner won the second set, and again the last point was amazing. Sinner ended up winning the match (and getting his “revenge” after the French Open), a first Wimbledon championship by an Italian.

Nice sportsmanship, e.g. the genuine warmth and admiration they feel for each other, seen in their post-match commentaries. This is looking to be a decade-long on-court rivalry, if not longer.

Yes, it could be Nadal-Federer 2.0. I like both players a lot.
