Win 8.1 and system image

I read that the system image function is gone from Win 8.1.

Just curious. Is it really gone? Have you tried going to Settings/Change PC Settings/General, scroll all the way down to Advanced Start up which has an option to restore from a system image ? Is that gone now?

The menu navigation isn’t exactly as you describe, but there is an Advanced Startup option and it does mention restoring from a System image.

They didn’t remove system image from Windows 8.1. They only removed the graphical interface to it.

How to Create and Restore System Image Backups on Windows 8.1:

Control Panel, File History, System Image Backup to create.

Recovery, If you’re experiencing problems…, Restart now to restore.

Thanks for the info.
That function is what I am using for our two laptops and was hoping it was still there if I decide to go for Win 8.1.

Is there a better commercial alternative out there?

I have used Norton Ghost in the past but did not like the lack of explanations for the options. As I recall it took me three tries to get it figured out and get a good system image.

Acronis used to have a good reputation but I saw a number of posts from folks having trouble with it.

I think ShadowProtect is the best pure imaging software. Paragon does a decent job and also has a lot of disk and partition management functions.
