Win 98 help needed - my briefcase - how to get it

Hi all
I had trouble w/ a laptop and upgraded some computers that it synced with using my briefcase. I removed/deleted it. I went to windows add/remove programs in control pannel trying to get it back but couldn’t find it -

in short:

How do I get ‘my breifcase’ back on my laptop
thanx

the only time your given the option for the briefcase that I’ve even seen is during the inital windows setup, you have to tell it you have a laptop computer, or manually select the components you want windows to install…

Get your windows 98 CD

go to

Win 98 control panel
click on add-remove programs applet
“windows setup” tab in this applet
click on “accessories” category

The option to restore briefcase is there. It may need your CD to extract needed binaries.

prioblem solved, it wasn’t in add/remove programs. I was able to right click on the desktop and create a new briefcase
thanks to all

does it have the picture of the breifcase and everything? I’m going to feel stupid if its that simple and I’ve never come across it…

astro is correct in what he said to do.

I dont believe astro is correct – I have several time looked for the briefcase in add/remove programs, but I have never found it there.

Actually, k2dave found the easiest way to do it. Is that what you’re asking kinoons?

Right click on a blank part of the desktop. Go down to new-> briefcase. It creates a brand new looking briefcase right there where you clicked it.

IIRC different versions of Win 98 handle the briefcase issue slightly differently depending on how it was installed to begin with. My home unit has briefcase as an install option per my original post in the windows setup tab and does not have the re-create BC option via the desktop. MY Win98 PC at work does not have it in the windows setup - accessories tab and does allow you to create it via right clicking the desktop per your post. Both are Win 98 SE but were setup with different install options.
