I’m suddenly experiencing an odd issue in Windows 10, which just appeared out of nowhere. There was no Windows reboot or update; things functioned normally in the evening, and the next morning they didn’t.
The issue is with the standard Windows 10 “Save as…” dialog. When I attempt to replace an existing file with a new file having the same name, the standard response from Windows is to pop up a dialog box asking me to confirm that I actually want to replace the existing file.
As of yesterday morning, it pops up the confirmation dialog … for a split second. Then it vanishes. It’s so fast that there is no chance to actually click to confirm. So I’m effectively forced to save the file with a new name, then manually delete the original and manually change the name of the new file. Annoying.
At first I thought this was a glitch with Firefox, so I switched to a different web browser … same issue. I’ve also tested it with other applications, and have more or less confirmed that the problem is happening only with the default Windows 10 save dialog. It doesn’t happen with apps that use their own custom save dialog, like GIMP.
The issue has persisted through a hard reboot of Windows 10. I also ran my disk cleanup/repair utility. The problem persists.
Any clue as to what’s going on here, and how to fix it?
