Windows - Deleting Update Folders

Is it safe to delete the folders created in the Windows directory during Windows Updates? I have a ton of these folders, presumably created each time Windows Update applies service packs, fixes, etc.

Examples of the folder names:

eb8777c07a5a501b8a2b4099ece297ef

NtServicePackUninstallIDNMitigationAPIs

NtUninstallKB873339

What are the impacts of deleting these folders to free up harddrive space?

Thanks,

MeanJoe

You can delete them, it only means you won’t be able to uninstall the updates. You can also delete C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download.

We frequently delete them around here. Not a problem.

Thanks! That freed up 1.3G of harddrive space! WOOT!

At current market rates, that’s about 25-30c worth of hard drive you’ve freed up for yourself.

If your hard drive space is so limited that 1.3Gb makes a difference, you might want to consider a new internal or external hard drive.

Understood. I have an external drive where all my documents, music, photos, etc. are stored. My internal drive was getting full with primarily applications and Windows. I’m not willing to spend any more money on this pc, even with storage being so reasonably priced. I want to ride it till it dies then switch to a shiney new iMac.
